Wanting to learn about cultures and holidays in other countries? Here we have a podcast the topic of a famous holiday in Mexico, Dia de los Muertos! The podcast gives some really good resources and activities for learning about this holiday. Here is a list of the book and websites we used:
Pablo Remembers: Fiesta of the Day of the Dead by George Ancona – This book is a great introduction to the topic. Feel free to purchase it and read it aloud with your student!
www.azcentral.com/ent/dead -This website is where you can find all kinds of information about Dia de los Muertos. Everything from videos to crafts and recipes are on this page!
- This PDF is the teacher/student packet that contains different worksheets, coloring pages, activities and the directions for the Papel Picado activity.
Press Play on the audio bar to start the podcast whenever you're ready to get started! Hope you enjoy it and please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions regarding the podcast.
Here's a fun video that gives you an idea of all the fun things there are to do at the Union on The University of Oklahoma's campus! Here is a collaborative activity that the students could do in the classroom to practice their writing, reading, and social interaction. It also is a good way for them to reflect on something positive about their experiences in school. It gives them the ability to be creative while working on language arts. I think it can help the students get to know the other members of the class and interact with them over a common topic.
